GTA V and GTA Online remain hugely popular on Twitch, especially RP (roleplay) servers like NoPixel. The game's detailed open world and driving sequences need proper OBS settings to look good on stream.
Recommended Settings
Twitch
- 1080p 60fps: 6,000 Kbps, NVENC (New), Preset P5
- 1080p 30fps: 4,500 Kbps — acceptable for RP streams where 60fps isn't critical
- 720p 60fps: 4,000–4,500 Kbps
YouTube Live
- 1080p 60fps: 9,000–12,000 Kbps
- 1440p 60fps: 14,000–16,000 Kbps
GTA V Streaming Characteristics
GTA V has moderate compression complexity. City environments with lots of geometry and traffic are harder to compress than open desert areas. High-speed driving creates rapid scene changes that need more bitrate.
For RP streams, which are mostly walking and talking, 5,000 Kbps at 1080p looks great. For racing or action-heavy content, push to 6,000 Kbps on Twitch.
Encoder Settings
NVENC
- Rate Control: CBR
- Bitrate: 6,000 Kbps (Twitch) / 9,000–12,000 Kbps (YouTube)
- Preset: P5 (Slow)
- Profile: High
- B-frames: 2
x264
- Preset: Fast or Medium (GTA V is GPU-heavy, so CPU is usually available)
- Profile: High
In-Game Settings
- FXAA: On
- MSAA: Off (use FXAA instead — MSAA is too GPU-heavy)
- Texture Quality: High
- Shader Quality: High
- Shadow Quality: Normal
- Reflection Quality: Normal
- Grass Quality: Normal (High/Ultra kills FPS)
- Post FX: Normal
- Motion Blur: Off (important for stream quality)
- Depth of Field: Off
For FiveM / RP Servers
FiveM RP servers often have custom assets that increase VRAM usage:
- Lower Texture Quality to Normal if you have less than 8 GB VRAM
- Disable Extended Distance Scaling
- Set Population Density and Variety to lower values
